Building the future of the Minnesota State Patrol

For nearly a century, the Minnesota State Patrol has evolved alongside the state it serves.

The agency’s mission has grown. The work has become more complex. Technology has changed how troopers and employees do their jobs. And the State Patrol continues to adapt to meet the needs of Minnesotans.

Now, the agency is building a headquarters designed for the work.

The Minnesota State Patrol broke ground on a new headquarters in Roseville in September 2026. For the first time in its history, the State Patrol is building a headquarters designed specifically for the agency and its mission of traffic safety.

The new headquarters will bring these six State Patrol operations together under one roof.

Bringing more of the State Patrol together

Today, State Patrol operations in the metro area are spread across six locations. The new headquarters will bring personnel, resources and operations from those six locations together under one roof.

That will create more opportunities for employees from different areas of the agency to work alongside one another, share information and coordinate their duties. The new headquarters is designed to support that collaboration while providing a central metro location for the agency’s operations.

As Col. Christina Bogojevic said during the groundbreaking ceremony, “This is more than a building. It is a new foundation for the Minnesota State Patrol.”

Built around the work

When the new headquarters opens in 2028, it will provide dedicated spaces around the State Patrol’s most important work.

Emergency operations space inside the facility will bring people and information together during major events, emergencies and other critical situations.

Modern classroom and training spaces will support continued professional development throughout an employee’s career. As the challenges facing public safety change, State Patrol employees need opportunities to continue learning and developing their skills.

The headquarters will also include secure evidence processing and storage. These spaces will support the investigative process and help protect evidence while providing troopers, investigators and law enforcement partners with the information they need.

Modern technology and security systems will safeguard State Patrol employees, information and operations and give employees the tools they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.

“Law enforcement will continue to evolve as challenges have done over the years,” DPS Commissioner Bob Jacobson said. “This space, with all the advancements that it brings, allows the State Patrol match that evolution.”

Supporting people who serve

A headquarters is only as effective as the people who work inside it.

The new facility includes spaces designed to support employee wellness and fitness. The State Patrol also needs to attract and retain the best people who want to dedicate their careers to serving their communities. A modern, secure and functional workplace is part of creating an environment where employees can build those careers.

“Taking care of the people who take care of Minnesota is part of public safety,” Bogojevic said.

Designed for the future

The new headquarters is being designed to serve the State Patrol for decades to come.

The approximately 117,000-square-foot facility will incorporate sustainable, environmentally friendly design elements with an emphasis on natural light, durable materials and a site design inspired by Minnesota’s diverse landscapes.

The headquarters will also support national law enforcement accreditation standards and provide flexibility for the agency as it continues to evolve.

The Minnesota Legislature approved $22.5 million in 2024 to purchase land and design the facility and $97 million in 2025 for construction.

“It is about building for the next generation of the Minnesota State Patrol,” Bogojevic said.

Once complete, the facility will provide a long-term home designed around the State Patrol’s work, its people and its mission.
